အေနာက္တိုင္းႏွင့္အေရွ႕တိုင္းစကားပံုဆိုရိုးမ်ား(အပိုင္း-၁)

1. A learned man can be appreciated only by another learned man.
ပညာရွိတစ္ဦးကို အျခား ပညာရွိတစ္ဦးကသာ အကဲခတ္ႏိုင္၏။ (ေရႊအေၾကာင္းဖေယာင္းသိ)
2. A burnt child dreads fire.
မီးေလာင္ခံရဖူးတဲ့ကေလး ေနာက္တစ္ခါ မီးေလာင္ခံရမွာကို ေၾကာက္တယ္။(တခါေသဘူး ပ်ဥ္ဖိုးနားလည္)
3. A frog, never having seen the ocean, considers its well a great sea.
သမုဒၵရာ မျမင္ဘူးေသာ ဖားသူငယ္သည္ မိမိတြင္း၌ရွိေသာေရကို ႀကီးမားေသာပင္လယ္ဟု ထင္၏။ (မျမင္ဘူး မူးျမစ္ထင္)
4. A bird in hand is worth two in the bush.
- လက္ထဲမွာရွိေသာငွက္သည္ ခ်ံဳထဲမွာရွိေသာငွက္ႏွစ္ေကာင္ထက္ အဖိုးတန္တယ္။ (ရွိသည္က မရွိသည္ထက္ေကာင္း)
5. A fool and his money are soon parted.
- လူမိုက္ႏွင့္ေငြအတူမေန။
6. As the tree is , so is the fruit.
- သစ္ပင္အလိုက္ အသီးသီး၏။(ငွက္ေပ်ာပင္စိုက္ မိ-လိုက္ ဖ-ပါ)
7. All fish that comes to his net.
- ငါးအားလံုးကေတာ့ သူ႔ပိုက္ထဲ ဝင္သြားတာပဲ။ (မရ ဒသကခ်ိဳင္)
8. A mouth that prays a hand that slays.
- ဘုရားရွိခိုးေသာ ပါးစပ္၊ သတ္ေသာလက္။ (ပါးစပ္က ဘုရား၊ လက္က ကားယား)
9. A gold-smith will pilfer the gold dust even of his mother.
- ေရႊပန္းတိမ္သည္ သူ႔မိခင္၏ေရႊမႈန္႔မ်ားကိုပင္ သိမ္းယူေပလိမ့္မည္။ (ပန္းတိမ္လူ႐ိုး၊ အေမ့ေရႊတမတ္ခိုး)
10. A poor man in embroidery looks funny.
- အဝတ္အစားေတာက္ပစြာ ဝတ္ဆင္ထားေသာ ဆင္းရဲသားသည္ ရယ္စရာျဖစ္ေန၏။ (မိမိအဆင့္အတန္းႏွင့္ ညီမွ်စြာေနပါ)
11. Among the blind the one-eyed man is king.
- မ်က္မျမင္ေတြၾကား မ်က္စိတဖက္ျမင္သူသည္ အႀကီးအကဲျဖစ္တယ္။ (အႏွစ္မရွိတဲ့ေတာ ၾကက္ဆူပင္မင္းမူ)
12. A rolling stone gathers no moss.
- လိမ့္ပါမ်ားတဲ့ေက်ာက္တံုးသည္ ေရညွိမတက္ပါ။
13. A stitch in time saves nine.
- အခ်ိန္မီ တခါခ်ဳပ္ျခင္းသည္ အႀကိမ္(၉)ခါခ်ဳပ္ျခင္းထက္ေကာင္းတယ္။ (ပ်က္အစဥ္ ျပင္ခဏ)
14. As you make your bed so you must lie on it.
- သင္ခင္းထားေသာ အိပ္ရာေပၚတြင္ သင္လဲေလ်ာင္းရေပလိမ့္မည္။ (မည္သူမျပဳ မိမိမႈ)
15. At seizing a mouse a cat is as blod as a lion but is himself a mouse when pitted with a tiger.
- ၾကြက္ကိုခုတ္ရာမွာ ေၾကာင္သည္ ျခေသၤ့မင္းကဲ့သို႔ရဲရင့္ေသာ္လည္း က်ားႏွင့္ေတြ႔ေသာအခါ သူကိုယ္တိုင္ ၾကြက္ျဖစ္ရေလသည္။ (ကာလဝိပါတ္ ေနာက္ပိုးတက္)
16. A harsh of word is more painful than a blow.
- ႐ုန္႔ရင္းေသာ စကားတခြန္းသည္ လက္သီးတခ်က္ထိုးျခင္းထက္ နာက်င္ေစသည္။ (ႏႈတ္ေၾကာင့္ေသ၊ လက္ေၾကာင့္ေၾက)
17. A man's deed is the touchstone of his greatness or littleness.
- လူတစ္ေယာက္၏အျပဳအမူသည္ ထိုသူ၏ ျမင့္ျမတ္ျခင္း၊ သို႔မဟုတ္ ယုတ္ညံ့ျခင္းကိုျပေသာ မွတ္ေက်ာက္ပင္ျဖစ္၏။
18. A wise man changes his mind sometimes a  fool never.
- ပညာရွိသည္ မိုက္႐ူးရဲမလုပ္။
19. As vessels of earthen ware are tried by their rings, so also is a man tried by the word of his mouth.
- ေျမအိုးေကာင္းမေကာင္းကို ကိုင္းအားစမ္းသပ္ျခင္းျဖင့္ သိႏိုင္သကဲ့သို႔ လူတေယာက္ေကာင္းမေကာင္း ပညာရွိမရွိကိုလည္း သူေျပာေသာစကားျဖင့္ အကဲခတ္သိရွိႏိုင္၏။
20. An old bird is not be caught with chaff.
- ငွက္အိုကို ဖြဲၾကမ္းျဖင့္ မဖမ္းရ။ (စားေနက် ေၾကာင္ပါး)
